Fifty-two years in Louisville
Second generation, still independent.
Claude M. Reynolds III owns the agency his family started in 1974. Matt Reynolds, the second generation, works alongside him as an agent today.
In his own words
“Since 1974, our agency has been helping families, business owners, and churches with their insurance needs. Working with over 5,000 families and 1,000 churches, we have grown to become one of the largest insurance agencies in our area. Our goal is to provide you with the very best coverage with the very best companies while saving you money. Let us prove this to you today as we look forward to working with you and becoming your agency of choice.”

1974 to today
What fifty-two years actually adds up to.
Claude Reynolds Insurance Agency opened its doors in 1974. The Better Business Bureau lists the business start date as January of that year, and the agency has carried a BBB A+ rating and accreditation since December 2004. Fifty-two years in, it is still a family agency: Claude M. Reynolds III owns it, and Matt Reynolds, the second generation, works there as an agent.
Over that time the agency has worked with more than 5,000 families and 1,000 churches. That has made it, in the agency's own words, one of the largest insurance agencies in the area. It has not claimed to be the largest in Kentucky, and this page will not upgrade that claim for it.
The mission statement the agency publishes on its own site is short and specific:
“To provide you with the best coverages for the best price while giving you an insurance buying experience you won't find anywhere else”
What independent actually means
One company, or twenty-seven.
A captive agent works for one insurance company and can only sell that company's products. Reynolds does not work that way. In the agency's own words:
“Unlike a captive, or direct insurance company who only offers their own proprietary products, our agency is 100% independent of any one company. Many insurance consumers don't fully understand just how important that really is. … At the end of the day, what separates one agent from another, is their ability to proactively service their policy holders, and their knowledge of the insurance industry, products, and different situations that may present themselves.”
Twenty-seven carrier appointments back that up: Anthem BC/BS, Banner Life, Brotherhood Mutual, Dairyland, Farmers, Foremost, Genworth, GMAC, Grange, GuideOne, Humana, KESA, Kentucky National, Lincoln Financial, MetLife, Philadelphia, Progressive, Prudential, Safeco, Selective, State Auto, Symetra, The Hartford, Transamerica, Travelers, West Coast Life and Zurich. A captive agent has one of these.
